Fargo-Moorhead is one of the friendliest places in America! This is a fun, warm-hearted community of 2 cities in 2 states with a population of over 210,000. Fargo-Moorhead is located at the intersection of interstate highways I-29 and I-94.

Fargo-Moorhead is the home of Bonanzaville, USA, a re-created frontier town and museum that allows visitors to experience a small community of the late 19th century. Nowhere but in Fargo-Moorhead will you find a museum dedicated to baseball great Roger Maris, a Fargo native. Fargo-Moorhead is also home to the Plains Art Museum, the Rourke Art Museum and the Fargo Air Museum, that specializes in flyable war planes.

You might also want to visit the Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County. It documents the history of the region's Norwegian immigrants who, along with Canadians, Germans and Icelanders, settled much of the area. The museum contains the Hjemkomst, a replica of an ancient Viking ship, which completed a voyage to Norway in 1982.

Fargo-Moorhead isn't entirely about past events. It is the largest shopping destination between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Spokane, WA. With superior shopping, a variety of over 350 restaurants, cultural events, museums, and professional and amateur sports make it a great destination for visitors.

Where the New West Meets the Old

Minneapolis and Saint Paul are well known as the Twin Cities, but they are certainly not identical twins. Saint Paul's European-style architecture, for instance, is a contrast to the modern skyscrapers of Minneapolis. The third sibling, suburban Bloomington, is home to world famous Mall of America.

These differing architectural styles also give the metropolitan area diversity in personality, attractions and entertainment. Glacier National Park, together with the Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada, form the world's first International Peace Park. But in this rugged section of the northern Rockies, exhilaration is the universal language. Mountain goats cling to craggy, glacier carved peaks. Pie is served fresh daily in a small town. And drivers watch the scenery unfold beyond their knuckles as they drive along a road that defies words. The park was designated America's 10th national park on May 11, 1910.

If there's one defining feature of this place it's the engineering wonder known as the Going-to-the-Sun Road. This spectacular 50-mile highway clings to the edge of the world as cars—and bikes—cross over the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. Along the way, don't be surprised if resident wildlife shares the road with you. After all, the same remote solitude you’re seeking is what attracted them here in the first place. Then unwind in a comfortable wooden chair at the Lake McDonald Lodge. As you pass through the gates and leave the park, you may also be a changed person.

Oversize vehicles can be parked at various points. Rental cars are available at nearby towns. A shuttle service may be available; call the park for details. Inquire ahead of time as to the current status of the Going-to-the-Sun-Road because snow can often last well into June.

Days 1/2/3/4 – Arrive Sioux Falls
Nearly 30 species of fish inhabit the streams and lakes of South Dakota. The Missouri River and Glacial Lakes area offer trophy walleye, northern pike, bass, sauger, salmon, catfish, bluegill and perch. The Missouri River near the Oahe Dam by Pierre is yielding massive trout. Rainbow, brook and brown trout fishing is available in the 14 lakes and 481 kilometers of mountain streams of the Black Hills. Overnights Sioux Falls, Watertown, Pierre.

Days 5/6/7/8 – To Thermopolis, Saratoga, Green River, Jackson Hole
In Wyoming, the Bighorn River near Thermopolis is one of the top five trout fishing waters in the country and yields cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout. Public access is available along most of the rivers, and local guides and outfitters take fishermen to areas of the river where the number of fish caught depends entirely upon the enthusiasm and skill of the fisherman. The North Platte River near Saratoga yields over 2,000 catchable trout per kilometer, and is accessed by local guides and outfitters in flat-bottomed boats. The Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area offers 150 kilometers of shoreline surrounded by steep canyon walls. Trout, bass and kokanee salmon grow to record size in the 150 meter deep lake. The Snake River near Jackson is also one of the country’s top five, and the recent site of the World Fly Fishing Federation competition. Overnights Thermopolis, Saratoga, Green River, Jackson Hole.

Days 9/10/11/12 – Jackson Hole to West Yellowstone and Bozeman
Three of the five highest rated blue-ribbon trout fisheries in North America are within easy reach of West Yellowstone and Bozeman, Montana. The Madison River, which is considered by many fly-fisherman to be the top rated river in all the country, produces thousands of rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout per kilometer. The Gallatin River challenges anglers to some of the most spectacular scenery and fighting trout in the region. And don’t forget the Yellowstone River, also a treat for anglers, which provides awesome scenery as it travels north out of Yellowstone Park. Overnights in West Yellowstone, Gardiner or Bozeman.

Days 13/14/15/16 – Bozeman to Island Park, Sun Valley and Boise
To trout fisherman, Henry’s Fork in southeastern Idaho is famous as a river unparalleled for wild cutthroat trout weighing more than 10 pounds. Fly-fishermen from around the world flock to Silver Creek’s spring-fed waters which are loaded with huge native trout. Sun Valley and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area are fly-fishing at its finest. Only the spectacular scenery could top the lunker trout in the area’s rivers, lakes and streams. Overnights Island Park, Sun Valley, Boise.

Days 17/18/19/20 – Boise to Coeur d’Alene, Sand Point, Spokane
In Coeur D’Alene, contact River Odysseys West (ROW) for all-inclusive river rafting packages on nine of Idaho’s rivers. Fishing boats can also be rented in Post Falls or Spokane for trout fishing on the Spokane River from Spokane to Coeur d’Alene, and access is good for fishing lakes in and aorund Spokane within 40 miles of the city. Lowland season opens in April. Overnight Coeur d’Alene, Sand Point, and Spokane.

The majestic 60-foot (18 m) faces of four U.S. presidents gaze out over South Dakota's Black Hills. Recognized worldwide, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, stands as a symbol of American democracy. This national treasure represents critical times in American history.

From the Grandview Terrace, visitors get spectacular views of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. For a closer view, visitors can walk the half-mile (.8 km) Presidential Trail, which loops along the base of the mountain. The impressive Lincoln Borglum Museum contains interactive interpretive exhibits. Visitors discover why the four presidents were selected. They see how the mountain was carved, and they learn about sculptor Gutzon Borglum and the workers who brought Mount Rushmore to life. An evening lighting ceremony enthralls visitors.
